Day three solidifies positions.

Aug 17, 2008 - Floyd Ziegler and Claude Bernatchez (QC) have solidified their lead in Group A after the third day of the Canadian Snooker Championship round robin. Their match today will determine first and second place ranking within their group.

Tom Finstad has secured his spot into the elimination round which begins on Monday. BC's Jason Lee is currently in 2nd place with two match wins. Another win today would secure his position. John Axe and Jack McKinnon have an outside chance depending on the outcome of today's matches.

Alain Robidoux continues to dominate his group and will advance to the elimination round. He also dominates the century list adding a 109 in his match with Demos Zachariou. Ed Heckbert is second in Group C and barring unforeseen circumstances should finish in this position. Ian Ngan of BC is currently in third with two matches to play today.

Lester Mianskum and Jonathon Sun will be playing for position in their contest today. New Brunswick's' Robert Azevedo has finished third within this group.

Alberta's Peter Terpstra has the best record in Group E and is tied with Ed Galati with three match wins. Eriks Malderis is a close third but is unable to attain three wins. He lost to both of these players in the decider.

Fern Loyer is in the lead in Group F and will play Nova Scotia's Ken Shea today. A win in this match by Shea could affect Kirk Stevens second place position. Kirk plays Stan Chartrand today and a win there will advance him to the elimination round.

Quebec's Stephane Martineau has three match wins and is in control of Group G. He won his match with Ray Saunders who is currently in second so this is how they will finish, with no one else in a position to attain three wins.

In Group H, Pat McCarthy is in a secure position. A win over Phil Snache today would only improve his first place position. Jeff Kennedy is currently in second with a very slim chance of Phil upsetting this position.

The snooker round robin will conclude today and the section is updated to Day 3. We will post the snooker elimination draw along with the draws for Senior Snooker, Open 8-Ball and Women's 8-Ball as soon as they become available. All of these events will start on Monday August 18.
