Bernatchez raises the bar.
Aug 18, 2008 - The Snooker Championship round robin concluded yesterday, but not before Claude Bernatchez of Quebec completed a 139 in his 4-1 win over Floyd Ziegler. Alain Robidoux who is also from Quebec had compiled three centuries in the round robin, including the highest, until today. It will now take a 15 red clearance to better this number.
Bernatchez had four match wins in his group, as did Tom Finstad, Alain Robidoux, Lester Mianskum and Ed Galati. The best win/loss percentage was attained by Tom Finstad.
The toughest group on paper was Group G, where four players were within 2 frames of each other. Terry Davidson tied first place winner Stephane Martineau in frames won, but needed a third match win to carry him through.
Best effort has to go to Eriks Malderis who won no less than three frames in all four of his matches. Unfortunately, the two matches he lost on the decider were against his point rivals in that group. Next Year!
The snooker championship elimination round has a good mix of players from across Canada including British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick thanks to the efforts of their provincial associations.
The snooker round robin matches are complete through day 4. The drawsheet for the snooker elimination rounds as well as senior snooker are now available. The Open 8-Ball and Women's 8-Ball brackets are posted as well. All of these events will start on Monday, August 18.
