sl09 CBSA Canadian Championships

Martel plays well from the pressure cooker.

Aug 21, 2009 - Saskatchewan's Cass Burns didn't figure prominently in the 9-ball championship. He won two rounds on the A side and lost to Adam Smith 11-5. In his first match on the B side with Francis Crevier, he exited the tournament with a 9-5 loss.

He can however be very proud of the fact that he was the only player in the championship to come out on the winning side with Alain Martel.

When play was completed on Wednesday, Martel along with fellow Quebecor Francis Crevier had won 5 matches in the lower bracket. They both had what would seem an insurmountable feat ahead of them, to crossover back to the A side, both having started from the B side 2nd round.

Crevier and Martel won against Mario Morra and Adam Smith. They would now play off to advance to the lower bracket final. In the mean time Jason Klatt and John Morra played the A final.

Klatt held off Morra by an 11-7 score while Martel won over Crevier 9-6.

An 11-6 win over the current 8-ball champ John Morra and a 15-10 score over Jason Klatt would re-crown Alain Martel as Canada's 9-Ball Champion.

Martel is the first to win in back to back year's and now has the most win's in this championship.

This should prove to be a very memorable tournament.

Bien cuit mon ami.
