First major of the OSSL 2009 - 2010 season scheduled for next weekend.
December 13, 2009
The first major championship for the OSSL is scheduled for Dec 18, 19 and 20th at Formac Billiards in Burlington. There are 42 confirmed entrants who each have a minimum of 4 previous events played. The OSSL format for Majors is best 2 of 3 with a full double knockout.
To accommodate members who are working we have split the field for the Saturday matches between Formac and Frederick Billiards. We will play as many matches on Friday as we possibly can; and then buckle down for a long days snooker on the Saturday. Finalists will play all their matches at Formac on Sunday to decide a champion.
The OSSL is open to all snooker players age 55 and over. Weekly tournaments are played from Labour Day until early April, in 5 different venues. Burlington, Hamilton, Kitchener, Guelph and Mississauga. There are 2 Major events and a Provincial Championship; all available to all members who have played in a preset number of events.
All matches are handicapped based on each players individual performance, and handicaps are adjusted weekly by the Leagues statistician. Most weekends there are events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, to give maximum access and opportunity for all to play. We average about 25 players at these weekly room events.
Dress code is strict but not onerous; with ties and vests only required at the 3 Major events. Fees are very reasonable and their is a terrific end of season banquet and celebration.
