Zhang goes the distance.

Quebec Champion Alex Zhang
April 26, 2009
The Quebec Snooker Championship got underway a week ago last Thursday at the 147 Snooker Club in Montreal. The championship had A and B classes and ran over two weekends with the top seeds not seeing action until the 2nd weekend.
Best finish in the the A class through the first weekend was M. Campbell and in the B class L. Emond. Both players survived the first weekend and made it to the fourth round.
There were three placements of seeded players in the 2nd, 3rd and 5th rounds. L. Fiori, F Delan, S. Martineau, R. Jean, L. Turgeon, A. Zhang and M. Zakini all made it to the second weekend 5th round.
In Saturday's last 16 round seeded players C. Audet, Y Gauthier and JP Gallant were upset by Stephane Martineau, Levis Turgeon and Alex Zhang.
Turgeon and Zhang took it a step further with wins over 2nd and 3rd seed Andre Roy and Claude Bernatchez to advance to Sunday's semis.
Zhang handily won this contest by a 4 nil margin while the top half between Alberto Camara and Rodney Cuillerier went to a decider in Camara's favour.
While the odd's were probably in Alberto's favour, it was Alex Zhang that was crowned this year's Quebec Champion in a hard fought match that was also decided in the last frame of the match.
Alberto Camara's 80 was the highest tournament break. C. Vallieres and G. Makyla won the A and B division high breaks.
Special thanks to Stephane Martineau of the 147 Snooker Club for all updates.
